J. Tedrowe Bonner

J. TEDROWE BONNER

Mr. Bonner entered the world of sustainable development through the field of social science. Most of his career has been devoted to academic research, with a B.A. in political economics from University of Massachusetts, an M.A. in statistics from Boston University, and current Ph.D. work in sociology at Stony Brook University. His areas of interest are in public sociology, environmental sociology, urban sociology and methodology. Starting in 2006, Mr. Bonner aggressively moved into studying the rapidly shifting field of sustainable development. He has extensive training in permaculture, solar energy, “charrette” processes and community engagement, and the development of high performance buildings though Passive House Institute United States. He follows the work of both the United States Green Building Council and Living Building Challenge.
Since 2009, Mr. Bonner’s focus has been on creating a public sociology where socio-ecological regeneration is of core interest. Rubicon Seven takes a very syncretic and holistic approach to its projects, melding his family’s development company with sociology and sustainable development disciplines. Much of their effort is developing different thought processes and human relationships with the aim of creating synergistic effectiveness. This deeper level of work has allowed the company to tackle both on systemic and structural issues that prevent meaningful transformation for regions.
Rubicon Seven, LLC works on a scale ranging from singular buildings to the level of nation states. Over the last few years, its focus has shifted to primarily working with governments and its citizens who are seeking to undergo meaningful transformation. Mr. Bonner is working both domestically and internationally on numerous interrelated issues that are challenging the long-range viability of regions.
Mr. Bonner speaks globally on issues primarily focused involving sociology, permaculture, and sustainable development. He is engaged with numerous organizations, including the American Sociological Association, Passive House Institute United States, and the Congress for New Urbanism, to name a few. He currently sits on the Connecticut board for Regional Plan Association, and the financial development arm for the global permaculture initiative.
